Hello Rod and
Robin,
Thanks for the very
good news update, I agree that Robin has accomplished a very difficult task to
get the system operational due to the flooding and our hardware
changes.
Just a reminder, be
sure to train them in the use of the SV Restricted flow manual valves whenever
they intend to test a 15 ton specimen. Refer to Mike Nemeth's summary
message for the expected velocity
reduction.
Thanks again,
Roger W.

Roger,
You are very lucky to have Robin Tan
working this system. He has done an incredible job of getting it back together
in fine shape. I thought the bearings were totally shot, but the grease
injection has given them some extended life. I will not run the max performance
tests until Friday. Today, I got the A/D and D/A DUCs hooked up and tested and
ran the system for new friction tests and THD tests. The system is performing
VERY well. There are not much extra force pulses from bearing problems. A few at
1st, but after running a while, the bearings improved in performance. Do not
assume that they will last long, though. I still think that we will have to
replace them in the near future.
I intend to train Robin and IBST
people the next 2 days and then run the last tests Friday. The accumulators
really WORK WELL. This system is now a real seismic system and can reproduce all
but the most energetic earthquakes. I ran several earthquakes today and found
the system response to be vastly improved.
All for
now....
Rod
